Eric Johnson's latest studio album, Up Close [Vortexan], was released in December 2010.

While many guitarists might have found a year of promoting and touring -- not to mention working tirelessly on a line of signature music equipment -- reason enough to take a break and enjoy the holidays, Johnson is gearing up to hit the road.

Johnson, 57, and his band -- bassist Chris Maresh and drummer Wayne Salzmann -- will be touring stateside for almost all of January, kicking things off January 4 in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Plans are in the works for even more dates in the spring.

Good news for musicians. Gibson Guitar has moved heavily into pro audio with the creation of the Gibson Pro Audio division. The division will offer professional grade equipment, including loudspeakers, headphones, monitors, DJ gear, mixers, accessories and more.

Gibson has created the Gibson Pro Audio division by acquiring the esteemed Stanton Group, which includes some of the most respected audio manufacturers in the business – Cerwin Vega!, KRK Systems and Stanton DJ. Cerwin Vega! was responsible for the world's first solid-state amplifier in 1957. KRK Systems began in 1986 as a high-end monitor manufacturer. Moving Forward...

Hello fellow Tone Freqs!!!
I know it's been a LONG while since the site has been updated. Work travel and running the Sorcerer Radio/Live365 internet radio station has been taking up a lot of time as of late. Not to mention the fact that my wife's cooking and website has been taking off and I've been really involved in making that a success. Did I mention I also performed with my old band the Everafters on Black Friday? Something had to give at some point.

That said I have not abandoned the site... in fact our Twitter feed is alive and well at @ToneFreqPodcast delivering mini-reviews and cool video demos that I find on youtube! Over the next few weeks I will also be redesigning the site and relaunching our podcast on iTunes. There were several interviews I conduced late summer/early fall that I will be releasing and I hope to make a nice long podcast every month, that's the goal.

At any rate thanks to those of you who still check out the page with my news feeds and Twitter updates.

Fulltone Mini Deja Vibe Pedal Shootout

The Fulltone Mini Dejavibe, an older, 2001 model, and a current Stereo model, played in MONO. Didn't expect there to be a big difference between the two, but guess what? There is! The current version is brighter and has a more rich harmonic flavor to it, and the older gold big box version is smoother and warmer. I like em' both...too bad I can't play the style of guitar that lends itself to demonstrating these killer stompboxes...oh well! I used a http://www.kingbeeguitars.com Relic Telecaster and a http://www.jaguaramplification.com Jaguar Twin Amplifier , 2x10 combo.

Update on "Pickers 4 Pets" 6/19!

Greetings Tone Freqs!!! Summer NAMM 2010 is here! For the latest coverage of the show please visit the Whats That Dude Play blog! I hope to have the site's main man Blake on the podcast next week to chat about the Summer session and his blog! It will be good times all the way around.

As far as tomorrow goes I have gotten word from my JonesWorld band mate Chris Famous that we will be auctioning off a signed item from Faith Hill and Tim McGraw! This will go a long way in helping out the ASPCA with animal shelters affected by the TN flooding. Thank you Chris! I have also gotten a ton of giveaways for the show from our sponsors including guitars, pedals, strings, amps and MORE! We also have gotten over 200 DVD's from the Rock House Method to give away at the event as well. So just about everyone should be walking home with something VERY cool!

Nashville, Tennessee – 5/13/10 Guitarists Aljon Go and Tony Pasko throw a party featuring some of the best guitarists in town for the Nashville Summer NAMM show and raise money for the ASPCA to assist pets who have been effected by the recent flooding in Tennessee.

Gopher Entertainment Group and the Tone Freq Podcast present “Pickers 4 Pets.” The event will be held Saturday June 19, 2010 at the Rutledge Live Music Venue in downtown Nashville Tennessee. The showcase will feature performances from: Tony Pasko (guitar instrumentalist), JonesWorld (funk/rock), Rikk Beatty (guitar instrumentalist), Voodoo Prophet (metal), Absinthe Junk (rock/alternative) and more. It will also serve as an album release party for session guitarist Tony Pasko (Premier Guitar Magazine/Rock House Method). When I saw Brian Wampler post this new pedal picture on his Facebook page I thought it was some kind of joke. I still chuckle at the pedal's name. Here's the description from his website.

Sometimes you just need that "11" on your guitar or amp... something to to beat your amp into submission and show it who's boss...

It's finally here... the TALENT booster. It's true! Step on the button and instant talent... well, that's not entirely true but stepping on the button will catapult your signal making your amp much more responsive. I've designed this pedal to be very touch sensitive and warm, yet it has a switch to add in some mids and presence if you need extra 'girth'. It's a very transparent JFET based booster, and has a 'gain' control (which allows you to have a hint of dirt), a volume control, and a presence switch which will add in some mids and highs.

Cranking up the gain and you can add just a bit of natural compression and a bit of grind that makes a clean tone jump out... it doesn't change your tone at all however, it just ADDs to it!

It works well as a simple solo boost as well - place it behind your favorite overdrive or distortion (or use it in your amp's effects loop) and it will allow you to get your solo tones way out in front.

*Battery connection and 9v power jack (barrel plug like Boss)
*2 knobs - Volume/gain
*Switch goes from treble boosting to full body boost.
